Sunstreaker grunted as he drove over  a huge rock. This trek to the Alpha Green camp site was murder on his tires and body work. He wasn’t built for this off-road driving.
“How far are we going?” Heather asked starring out the window.
“When my bro and Suzy were training they left behind a campsite. There’s some food for you and some energon for me.”
“But Jazz said…”
“Jazz said what? Jazz didn’t have to trek up here with a whiney human. In a few hours you’ll be begging for something to eat.”
“We’re suppose to live off the land.”
“So you’re totally okay with becoming a cougar and catching some poor little bunny rabbit and ripping it to bloody shreds.”
“N-no.”
“Didn’t think so.” Sunstreaker grunted, “And I’ll be fragged if you think I’m gathering nuts and berries.”
“We could catch fish--”
“So you  can make a fishing pole, catch a fish and filet it?’
“Uh… no…”
“Again, I didn’t think so.”

Sunstreaker came to a stop suddenly and opened his passenger door. Heather glanced around.
“Why are we stopping?” she asked as she slide over the seat to get out.
“Trail’s blocked by a fallen tree. Besides we should walk while we still have some daylight.” he suggested. Once Heather had got out Sunstreaker transformed into his bipedal robot mode. He took a few steps and easily stepped over the downed pine. He then bent down and extended his hand out to her. “Come on, I won’t squish you.” He stared into her eyes while she studied his huge yellow hand. She climbed into the metal hand and he gently ferried her over the trunk and sat her down on the other side.

They trudged on through the muddy trail and fallen branches. Sunstreaker grimaced, how nice of them to have sent him out right after a huge rainstorm yesterday. The mud was going to dry and get caked in all his seams and creases.
“What are you doing?” Heather asked suddenly.
“Walking, what are you doing?”
“You are making a weird face.”
“Because I have mud caked inside me and AGGGHHH!”
“What!?”
“There’s a stone jammed in my foot.” he cried out. The both stopped and Heather looked for someway to help while Sunstreaker stood there favoring his leg.
“I think I can hear running water near by. Maybe we can take a break. I she if I can get the rock out.
“Fine.” he sighed. Heather took the lead and pushed through the under brush. They  came upon a slow rushing river. Heather motioned Sunstreaker to sit down on the bank.
“You sit tight, I’ll get the rock out of there.” she offered. He sat down on the sandy bank and extended his leg so she could see the bottom of his foot.
“It’s wedged up by my heal.” he explained.
“I can’t see it. It’s all mud.” she informed him examining it. “Put it in the river to rinse it off.” He did as he was told.
“That feels kinda nice. Like a all natural car wash!” he said pleasantly surprised. When the mud was gone he pulled it out of the cool water and presented  his clean foot to Heather. She looked at it again and then pulled out the swiss army knife Jazz had given  early. She flipped it out to a pair of tweezers. “Careful.”

She chewed her lip as she studied his foot. She began to root around for the rock up in the crease of his foot.
Sunstreaker giggled, “Car-careful.”
“You’re ticklish? How is that possible?” she asked bewildered.
“You keep touching a sensory node up there, that’s all.” he replied trying to stifle his giggling.
“Oh! It’s not… a … sexual…?”
“No! No! Just pull it out of there already!” he snipped not wanting to be reminded about the earlier situation. Heather clamped onto the rock with the tweasers and gave it a tug. She realized it was far to big for her tiny tweezers to grasp. She put the tool aside and grabbed the rock with her hand. It was at least the size of a strawberry. She gave it a yank and it came loose. Sunstreaker groaned, “That’s better.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah, you’re no Ratchet but that’ll do.” he said with relief. Heather looked at the rock in her hand, it was shiney and black. She handed it to Sunstreaker.
“Obisidian, maybe from your volcano.” she informed him, “It’s pretty.”
“Only the prettiest stones get stuck in my foot.” he said with a grin. Then he did something surprising. He waded into the river. “Come on, the water’s fine.”
“Won’t you sink?”
“Nope. Autobots float.” he replied laughing. Heather smiled, now this is the partner she wanted. She took her shoes and socks off. Under her clothes she was still wearing the  stretchy outfit Sunstreaker had made for her. After she had stripped down to  the specially made underwear she waded into the river up to her hips. The water was cool but not freezing. She slowly went deeper into the water wondering how deep it went. When she looked up to locate her partner he was gone. Autobots do sink! She swam a further out and called his name. he was bright yellow so he should be easy to find. How could something that large disappear that fast? She began to panick and her voice became more shrill as she called for him. Suddenly something grazed he bottom of her feet. Was it a fish? Then her entire calves were clenched in a vice grip and she was ripped under the rushing water. She squirmed and tried to scream under the current. She opened her eyes and met Sunstreaker’s mischievous glowing optics.  He grinned and released her. She swam up to the surface and he followed.
“Scared you  didn’t I?” he laughed.
“No.”
“I heard you  calling for me. Oh man you should have seen the look on your face.” he said snickering. She pouted at him. “Here, climb on.” He lowered one of his shoulders so she climb up onto him. She rung her ponytail out while up on her perch. “Uh, it’s getting dark already.”
“Yeah, maybe we should set up camp for the night.” she agreed.

They decided to make camp under a rocky overhang on the shore since it would be harder to find the campsite Sideswipe had left behind. A shiver ran down Heather’s frame as she walked up the sandy shore..
“Maybe we should start a campfire.” she suggested.  “I’ll go back and get my clothes and pick up some wood on the way.”
“Okay. Take your time.” he replied leaning back on the wall and shutting off his optics momentarily. And then when I get back , she pondered, we’ll use the transmodifiers.

Only a few moments had passed when his partner returned from her trek from up the banks. Once she started  complaining she couldn’t get the fire going he onlined his optics. She was sitting hunched over beating sticks together like a primitive.  He sat up from his reclining position.
“Here. Let me help.” Sunstreaker retracted his hand into his wrist and brought out a wicked missile launcher. He placed it in the center of the dry wood she had provided. It sparked a few times and when a fire started he pulled it away. He then replaced the weapon with his hand.
“Clever.” she remarked. “But wasn’t that against Jazz’s rules?”
“The only way he would know is if you told him.” the yellow warrior relied slyly. “Now come over here and warm yourself.”
“I’d be warmer by the fire over here--”
“Get over here. You think I don’t produce body heat?”
“You’re a robot.”
“So what?” he spat. Heather sighed and trudged over to him and sat beside him with her arms folded. He nudged her closer until she was sandwiched between his arm and chest. She hated to admit it, but he was right. He was surprising warm, warmer then a human. His internals made a slow churning noise. Between his warmth and the robotic hum Heather began to feel herself slip away from reality. Sunstreaker leaned his head back and shut his optics off again. What a strange situation this was. He would never imagine he would end in the forest at night by a crackling fire with a human female sleeping curled up beside him after the war had ended. Suddenly his thoughts and the silence were sliced with the howl of a wolf in the distance. Heather jumped and her eyes opened wide, searching. Her body was tense and she didn’t speak.
“It’s still far away.” Sunstreaker mumbled. She looked up to him.
“What?” he asked with out looking at her.
“Do you know what a wolf is?”
“Yes. I did a sketch of them in charcoal once.” he relied, “Why?”
“Why don’t you use your transmodifier to become one of them? They’re better then a dog.” she suggested softly. His optics flashed a few times as if he was blinking.
“Why are you so determined to make me use that thing?” he groaned.
“Because… you’re suppose to be my partner. They were made for us to use in missions.” she explained. Then she decided to open up her arsenal of weapons. She looked up at him with huge watery blue eyes. Her pleading eyes would bore into his soul… or his Autobot equivalent of it. He grunted, he hated when humans did that. He chewed his bottom lip for a second while he weighed his options.
“You know what, fine. I’ll do it. But when something goes horribly wrong don’t come crying to me!”
“Nothing will go wrong.” she assured him.  I hope.

Sunstreaker cycled cold air into his intakes in an attempt to clear his head. This was going to be bad. He should have told her about  what happened  the first time he tried to use the transmodifier. If she had known she might have dropped this idea or at least waited  till they were back at the Ark so Ratchet could change him bad.
“Okay. Just like Sideswipe taught me.” Heather said getting down on her hands and knees. “Ready?”
Sunstreaker crouched down in the same position and nodded. Heather activated her transmodifier and entered the form she desired, a wolf. Sunstreaker seemed to be doing the same. “Okay, just concentrate on the shape of a wolf. You wanted to hold my hand?”
He looked at her as if she was crazy at first but then reached his hand out for her and gave a faint smile. She clutched his pointer finger and held tight. She saw tawny and black hair begin to sprout out of his body all over and he began to shrink. The same was happening to her but she didn’t change size much. A tail sprouted from his backside and his eyes widened as he face started to morph into a snout. Their hands were turning into paws so it was getting harder to hold onto each other. Suddenly something shifted and Sunstreaker stopped transforming. Her body was still changing but he wasn’t. Oh no, it happened again. He’s half way through a transformation and he stopped again. His eyes widened in horror he reached up and grabbed his ears/ head fins.
“No!” he screeched in a horrible mechanical animal voice. “I’m stuck!”  Heather had completely transformed into a wolf successfully and watched in shock as her partner  freaked out. He was still far to large to be a wolf but he didn’t look like himself at all. It was just as his brother had described to her about the first time this happened. He looked like some kind of werewolf robot freak. She tried to hide the emotions in her cold lupine eyes. She had to gain control of this new form and calm him as quick as possible. She played with her tongue in her mouth until she got a feel for it so she could speak.
“Su-run Sunst-Suntreaker. Listen to me.” she finally found her words. “You have to calm down and refocus.” He opened his mouth and a long red tongue rolled out as he started to pant.
“Dront rook!” he screamed at her. He turned to run but fumbled and fell in a heap. She padded over to him and gently took his partly transformed hand in her mouth. “Nooo!”
“I am right here. I’m not going to let this happen to you again okay? Your’e going to finish transforming.”
“Rie Can’t.” he sobbed.
“Yes you can. You’re an Autobot warrior. You were made to transform. You wouldn’t want your brother and the other guys to be able to do it and not you right? Aren’t you the best at everything?” she stared into his glowing eyes. “Now finish.” He nodded slowly and got back up into the position. He closed his eyes and began to refocus. Heather cocked her head, his transforming resumed. Seconds later where the werewolf like monstrosity had been stood a beautiful noble wolf.

He was a larger male wolf whole golden tawny fur. He had black wisps through out his coat on his legs , ears, and tail. His eyes were the same haunting blue as his partners, he looked at her with them.

“There, you did it.” she said using her muzzle to touch his neck. “See.”
He walked over and looked at his reflection in the river. He worked with his mouth trying to get use to it’s new shape so he could reply.
“I did.” he finally replied. “And… I think I’m a much better looking wolf then you.”  he grinned showing off his white fangs. She snorted and strolled up to look at her own reflection. She was a brownish wolf with a white muzzle and tip on her tail. She was a credit to her species but was nothing like Sunstreaker’s appearance.

“So ready to take these wheels for a test drive?” she asked.
“I don’t know about a ‘drive’ but yeah.” he responded. Heather kicked sand over the campfire, they obviously had no use for  it anymore.

The two wolves dashed up the river bank matching stride for stride. Their muscles rippled under their flesh. To Sunstreaker this is almost what it felt like when he was speeding down an open road. Except there was no speed limit, no cops, and no human drivers in the way.  Once they came to where the river emptied into a lake they stopped running and took a rest. Heather bent down to lap the clear water and Sunstreaker followed her lead.

“This thing comes with a really good olfactory.” Sunstreaker commented.
“I know. And something has been following us for a while too.” she responded scanning the forest’s line.
“I’ve noticed. It seems to be watching us from a distance.”
“Rival wolf pack?” Heather suggested.
“No… I think there is only one.” Sunstreaker said sniffing the air. “It might be another Autobot keeping tabs on us.” suddenly his ears flattened.
“What’s wrong?” she asked in a hushed voice. He trotted over to a tree.
“I… I don’t know. I suddenly needed to leak lubrication on this tree…”
Heather started to snicker. “Is this Sunstreaker’s territory now?’
“Shut up. I can’t help it.” he whined lifting his leg and urinating on the trunk. “Wheeljack must have programmed these things to have some basic instincts installed in us so we blend in.”
“All right but if you try to hump me I’m going to kick your butt.” she growled playfully.
“I have some self control.” she grunted. He laid down in the grass and sighed. Heather laid beside him and nestled her muzzle into his neck.
“I wanted to thank you for helping me earlier. I’m sorry if I scared you.”
“You didn’t scare me.”
“How, that must have been a shock to you to see that. I should have told you that that’s what happened last time I used the transmodifier.”
“I already knew.” she responded laying her ears back submissively.
“You… knew?”
“You’re brother told me.”
“You knew and you still wanted me to try and use the transmodifier?” his voice raised. “Why would you do that?”
“Just because you failed once doesn’t mean you should give up. If you didn’t at least try to use it soon  they probably would have taken you off the roster and sent me home.”
“Yeah but what would you have done if I wasn’t able to stabilize myself.?”
“It doesn’t matter. I knew you could.  You’re to hard headed  to be beat by something that simple.”
“The world doesn’t always work that way. Just because you believe in something--” she trailed off softly. He licked his muzzle. “You know… I’m really hungry.”
“Are you gonna rip a little bunny rabbit to shreds?”
“No, are you?” he asked in a flat voice.
“No.” she said softly. They laid in silence for a second. “Hey, does anybody camp around here?”
“You mean humans? Yeah. Why?” he asked without moving. Heather stood up and shook herself off.
“Free dinner.” she said flicking her tail in his face. He jumped up and shook himself off as well.
“You are such a genius!” he cheered.
“Yep, we just fine tune our snouts to the scent of humans, campfire and junk food and we should find something to snack on.” she said raising her head to sniff the air. The two wolves stood motionless searching for the sign of humans camping.
“Got it. Less then a mile East.” Sunstreaker announced taking off in the direction he sensed. Heather followed him through the thick brush of the forest. They ran low and silently as if they were hunting a deer like a real pack. Their stomachs pushed them on and their instincts were aroused. They stopped just before they reached a clearing designating Camp Site number 4. They peered out of the bush to see A scout master and seven little boys gathered around a campfire. They were singing loud and off key while roasting marshmallows. The pair scanned the area. Bingo. Hotdogs and hamburgers left unattended by the picnic table and all around the trash cans. Sunstreaker licked his chops and started to circle the campsite towards the table. Heather followed the alpha male but her eyes never completely let the boy scouts out of her sight. Something felt wrong about this but her stomach  urged her on. Besides it was her idea and Sunstreaker would have thought she was a wimp if she pulled out now.

The golden wolf emerged silently from the low bushes and grabbed a hot dog still in it’s bun and began scarffing it down. He moved on to the next hot dog on the ground and began eating that too. He was so hungry and tired from transforming. Heather emerged behind her partner cautiously. She still eyed the humans warily. Sunstreaker motioned her closer and picked up half of a hamburger in his jaw and gave it to here. She downed it quickly.
“Don’t worry about the humans.” he whispered. “They are occupied. Eat.” He revealed himself further and jumped up onto the bench of the table. He began licking left over pork and beans greedily. He then tossed her a plate of hotdogs. For some reason hotdogs tasted even better in wolf form to her then as a human.  Suddenly the music and singing stopped. Heather turned to see the humans staring at her and her partner. Sunstreaker froze, this was bad. What should he do? Run? Run from a  human? Never.

The largest human, the scout master, tried to clam the frightened children. He reached from behind were he was sitting and pulled out a rifle. Since when do scout master come armed? Heather started to back down. But Sunstreaker showed no fear of the humans gun. Why would he? In his mind he still considered himself a 20 foot robot with polymer skin. Sunstreaker snarled and beared his teeth at them. The little human boys cried out in fear.
“Sunstreaker.” she whispered harshly, “Let’s go.” He bent down and began eating another hamburger. The rifle clicked. “Now!” she cried. He picked up another few hotdogs and got off the bench . He stared coldly at the humans. He was conflicted. Should he leave all this food because some lousy humans were afraid of him? Suddenly he heard a snarl come from the other site of the campsite and he felt himself get flung into the bush beside Heather. He whimpered in surprise. Heather retreated further. Once the gold wolf regained his composure he realized he was staring into the cold blue eyes of an even bigger wolf then himself. It was the scent from before. The wolf keep nudging him further from the humans campsite harshly. Sunstreaker snarled still holding his hotdogs in his mouth.
“Chill out man. It’s me.” the wolf spoke. Sunstreaker recognized the voice as his companion Jazz and started to retreat with Heather.  Once they were far enough from the human site Jazz began to stare down the two wolves.

He was a imposing figure, he had very bold black and white markings on his body and  was twice the size of Sunstreaker. Heather laid on the ground with her ears flat but Sunstreaker did not become submissive to him.
“Sunstreaker I thought you knew better.” Jazz snipped. Sunstreaker had a look of disgust on his face.
“What? I didn’t hurt them. I just ate their leftovers.”
“That’s not the point. You could have gotten yourself hurt or worse, Heather could have been shot.  Didn’t you stop to think at all?”
“N…no. I didn’t.” the gold wolf said relaxing a bit. “I’m sorry. I didn’t think. I won’t let it happen again.”
“Good.” Jazz said with a grin, his good natured tone returning. “Other then that you two are doing well tonight. I’m glad you finally got over your little problem.”
“Are we suppose to go back now?” Heather asked softly.
“Nope. You two are suppose to stay out here all night. There’s a cozy cave up ahead. Go ahead and bunk there for the night and come on back home in the morning. Got it?”
“Got it.” Sunstreaker replied.
“Good. And between the three of us, I’m gonna leave Prowl out of the loop on your little slip up tonight.” Jazz said flashing them a grin and trotting off into the dark underbrush of the night. Heather’s ears popped back up as soon as Jazz left.
“He’s a cool guy.”
“Yeah, a whole lot cooler then Prowl. If it had been him I would be scrubbing the wash racks for a week.”
“You could have just told him it was my idea.” Heather said getting up and looking towards the direction Jazz had indicated was a cave.
“Nah, I’m no squealer.” Sunstreaker said starting off towards the cave. “Although I might need a good  wash and wax for my continued silence.”

The cave was just as Jazz had said. A nice little cozy spot for them to spend the night, it was dry and warm. The two wolves curled up a few feet from the opening together.
Heather could feel her partners breathes going deeper and slower as he started to fall asleep. It was so strange. How different the two of them were on the outside before and now they were the same. When he was in this form she really didn’t think of him as a huge robotic alien, it was as if he was a human boy she had always known.
“Sunstreaker?”
“Hm?” he responded sleepily.
“How old are you?”
“I dunno.”
“Have you ever--”
“Shhh.” he responded gently, “Just go to sleep.”
“Sunstreaker?” she whispered.
“What?” he barely responded.
“Back home, on your planet… do you have a um… girl robot you like? I mean… if there are girl types do you have one?”
“N…no…” he whispered, “ I don’t”
“Did you ever have o--”
“Shhh, go to sleep.” he groaned. She laid down and snuggled into his coat.
“G’night.” she whispered. He didn’t respond, he had finally fallen asleep. Heather said and listened to the sounds of the night and Sunstreaker’s deep breathes before she to fell asleep.

The mornings first light danced through the mouth of the cave and onto the forms of the two sleeping wolves. Heather was the first to stir. Her ears twitched and she opened her eyes. It took her a few moments to recall where she was, who she was with…and why she wasn’t even in her own body. She stood up and shook her body and looked around. Sunstreaker groaned and rolled over onto his back. He threw his paw over his eyes.
“I had the weirdest dream about hotdogs with giant guns.” he moaned, “I think they gave me indigestion.”
Heather snickered at her partner. He stood up and stretched, “Alright, lets get this show on the road.”

He left the cave and she followed, “Time for me to return to my formerly handsome self.”
“Your’e going to change back?”
“Well yeah. You want me to drive us back right? I’m not walking all that way on all fours.”
“Yeah-”
“And you too. I don’t want doggie hair on my leather seats.” he smirked flicking his tail in her face.
“Right.” she half heartily agreed.

They both activated their transmodifiers and morphed back into their respective forms. Sunstreaker was very pleased he had no problems in the process. He flexed his massive forearms  and stretched his legs.
“That has to be the weirdest thing that has ever happened to me. It wasn’t so bad after all. You know, this transmodifier project might work out.” He looked at his partner, she was standing there in a sheepish smile still wearing only the skin tight yellow and black outfit he had made for her. “Oh yeah, your clothes.” Sunstreaker reached behind his back and into one of his subspace pockets. “Here. I thought you might want these later.” the yellow warrior bent down and gave them to her.
“Thanks. That’s a neat trick you have there.” she said pulling her tee shirt on.
“No trick. Comes standard. You should see what I’ve got stored in there.”
“Food?”
“Uh- no.” he responded flatly.

They trekked a little ways till they found the dirt road, which was now thankfully mud-free. Sunstreaker transformed into his Lamborghini form and opened  the driver seat door. Heather got it and he closed the door. “You want me to do through a  drive through for breakfast or you want to see what’s cookin’ at the Ark?”
“If they have human food at the Ark then that’s fine.”
“Yeah we serve that now since there are so many of you girls hanging around the place now.” he explained starting his engine and heading for home.

Heather was only allowed to grab a piece of toast and a glass of juice before both she and Sunstreaker were ordered to med bay. Sunstreaker explained that it was just a precaution since it was their first mission using the transmodifiers. Sunstreaker hopped on a cold metal slab so the white and red medic known as Ratchet could examine him. Heather sat on the slab beside him watching intently while nibbling her meager breakfast. His foot checked out well, the gruff doctor complimented her on the good job she did.
“Well, Sunstreaker you look up to speed, a lot better considering the last time you used the transmodifier.”
“Ratchet are you going to check me out too?” Heather asked a bit nervous. She didn’t like it when human doctors examined her, how would a giant robot  work out.
“I could if you want. Our human doctor should be joining us soon. She’s moving here from Michigan in a few weeks.”
“Um...well I …”
“I guess that would be a good idea. Let me finish here with golden boy.” Ratchet turned back to Sunstreaker. “Open wide and say ‘ah.”
Sunstreaker opened his mouth but instead of ‘ah’ a deep belch came out. He shut it again and his face plates turned a deep shade of red. “Ugh, were those… hotdogs?” Ratchet eyed him warily.
“Yeah.” Sunstreaker squeaked. “I got a little indigestion I think.”
“I’d say.” Heather chirped giggling. Ratchet turned around and grabbed a vial of little glowing tablets.
“Here. And warn me next time you  little glitch piggy.” Ratchet huffed. Then he turned to Heather. “What about you? “
“No… no problems.” she peeped. Ratchet glanced her over.
“You look fine to me. Any complaints?”
“Nope.”
“Good. You two get out of my med bay and have a good day off.” he said gruffly slapping Sunstreaker on the back.
“Thanks doc.” Sunstreaker grunted sliding of the examination table. He then helped Heather down. “Alright, let me go grab my favorite can a wax and then I want you to give me that scrub down you owe me.”
“Fine.” she grunted. She pretended it was an inconvenience but the truth was he was a really hot car and she wouldn’t mind cleaning such a slick vehicle.

Sunstreaker rounded the corner in a fairly good mood. Things seemed to be going his way now. He punched in the code on the key pad and the doors to his quarters slide open. He was greeted with a really foul smell. “Oh… what the…?” he looked down at the floor in front of him. Before his feet, inches away from being stepped on was a small, perfect pile of dog poop. “SIDESWIPE!!! I’M GONNA KILL YOU!!”
